webster’s wurdz

I’m intrigued with Noah Webster’s attempt to distinguish American English from British English by alternate spellings such as wurdz for words and reezon for reason. If some had had their linguistic druthers in U.S. colonial times, our national language would be Dutch or German. Wurdz has become a common 21st century cyber word play, but in using the term, I honor Webster’s 18th-century mission and the scuffle of dictionary play.
